An Age Mix Challenge Sometimes the best pairs weren’t intended to be pairs at all. Remember The Fox & The Hound? Or how about the Fever/Passenger mashup? Well, this round we want to see your unlikely duos! Take a great classic film/show and pair it with a modern era song, OR a modern era film/show with a classic era song. Maybe you’ll have Gene Kelly tap dancing to Linkin Park or perhaps James McAvoy will be shooting up the buildings along to a Tommy Dorsey song. Whichever you choose, show us how old & new can be the best of friends. *Rules* classic era will be before 1975 and modern era is post 1975. [example: Movie/Show from 1967 paired with Song from 1984 Movie/Show from 2005 paired with Song from 1942] The Winner: No winner has been announced yet.
A Journey Challenge Our fandom universe often expand within our minds. It crosses overs into others, it twists into alternate universes, it creates new relationships, it builds alternate endings. And we express this through fan videos. Such is why our site is named Expanding The Verse. But the creation process, might be called a journey. So this month, we challenge you to Journey Through The Verse. Few bands have been more iconic of a decade than Journey. While their name and sound explores a genre, we want you to explore and dive into your chosen verse(s). Create a video set to a Journey song. The song is your choice as are the fandom(s) and interpretation. We just want to see your journey and how you tie it all together with the music. The Winner: 1st: Lights by Gentlesideoffury (V for Vendetta) video challenges archive

Take a look at The Great ETV Experiement #2. Sliced and diced; the video and the action! We’re serving up cold, hard action with this multi-vidder video. Seven ETV’ers took part in this multi-fandom project and simultaneously vidded to a set theme and song. This go-round the theme was “kickass action” and the resulting video is on the nose with a wide variety of fandoms and both male and female representation. The seven vidders are: Illegal0Immoral (The Vampire Diaries) Ash48 (Arrow) Starrylizard (Missing) PsychoCynic (Avengers) Coastal5 (Green Street) CrystalSC (Haywire) SLauveng (Sons of Anarchy) A huge round of applause also goes to Starrylizard, our ETV Experiment Leader for all her effort in coordinating such a wonderful collaboration. She’s a great vidder and a community asset. Learn more about the video on the website or on the forum. Want to participate in our next experiment?
What an amazing video to be our first featured video for the fandom, Once Upon A Time. This vidder does a brilliant job drawing parallels between the Disney version of the well-known fairytales and the tv show versions. Watch the video and be amazed. Then read our interview with this fantastic vidder. Read our interview for a glimpse behind the scenes. 1. Your vidding name: how did you come to choose it? If you could, would you change it? If so, what to? ImNaturallySuper – It was a play on words, meant to showcase my love for the show Supernatural. Meaning, I’m lost for this show. 2. From when you first started, to now, how has vidding changed your life (ie. are you more involved in fandoms; are you pursuing media studies, or a career in it…etc)? I think I handle stress better that’s for sure. Creative outlets are a must for me. I’m not really any more involved than I was before in fandoms though, I was a watcher of videos long before I ever discovered that I could try my hand at it myself. And no, no career in video editing for me. It’s one hobby I couldn’t afford to be fed up with. 3. Are you working on any videos right now? If so, can you share a little about it? Haha, this is a layered question! My editing folder is miles long with videos. It’s like roulette with my muse, how do I know which one [...]

A Sentence Prompt Challenge “I find hope in the darkest of days, and focus in the brightest.” -Dalai Lama The beauty of words, whether they spring from a novel or a quote or lyrics, is that you the reader can interpret them in many ways. This month, we challenge you to make a video based on a single sentence prompt that we have chosen: “I find hope in the darkest of days, and focus in the brightest.” -Dalai Lama You can now make of that what you will. Videos may provide a hopeful, inspiring and uplifting tone or you may build an epically angsty video where the characters yearn for a hope they can’t quite reach. All you’re required to do is incorporate the sentence in some way. You may include it via text or record your own voiceover. If you’re really creative, you could find audio clips and build the sentence into a lyrical bit. How you include the sentence is up to you.
With the newly released iOS 6 from Apple, comes the new app, iTunes U. This “University” app offers a great selection of video based tutorials for a wide range of interests. Most excitingly, for video based programs! When opening the app, you can search in the catalog for a subject that you want to learn more about such as Adobe After Effects, Sony Vegas or Motion Graphics in Flash. Tutorials are provided by schools and individuals around the globe and while audio and video quality seems to vary based on the creator, my initial searches have turned up good results. The app itself is set up a bit like a cross between iBooks and Podcasts. You can subscribe to a series and it will download into your bookshelf for later viewing. You can also “like” a series or create a review for it. Tutorials are also shareable to email, text message, Twitter and Facebook. Related searches are easily accessible too. So why is this any better than YouTube tutorials? Well, perhaps it’s not. I haven’t had a whole lot of time to play with the app. However one would assume that Apple has to approve and process these tutorials, much as they do for their podcasts. Under that assumption I would wager the quality will be better than a majority of YouTube based video tutorials. In addition, this is another source for vidders who are searching for Mac based program tutorials which are harder to come by than tutorials for [...]
